Default Get Stronger Without Gaining Weight?

I weigh 120ish hydrated, and natural body waste in my system. I'm looking to wrestle at 119, possible even 114 (2lb allowance) 115 (Tournaments 3lb allowance).

Well first of all, before I begin, should I wrestle the lower weights? I'm strong for my size, quite strong, but I worry that If I wrestle at my natural weight class (119), I will overpowered by the cutters, who weigh naturally more than me.

Last year, I weighed about the same as I do now, maybe a little less, but by the end of the season, at state, I weighed in at 111.6...Which shows that I can cut the weight..

Anyways, to make a long story short. I'm running cross country to make my cardiovascular system more efficient, but I want to start building muscular endurance and strength. I don't want to get sooo heavy so as to that I won't be able to make the lower weights.

So what should I do and what supplements should I take?

    Thanks for any advice.

R-U-S-S-I-A-N Kettle bells. Will add great strength and not the bulk. I swear by them. There are some great kettle bell vids on Youtube for you to check out. It works for the russians and other eastern block countrys(checkout world results in wrestling)Eat right and take basic supplements. Kids who cut in a short period of time lose alot of strength with their cutting so don't worry about that. Checkout Kinetic Edge kettlebell training on youtube. Eric Devos is in the video and if you haven't heard of Eric Devos he is a 2X state champ in Minnesota and state runner-up in Iowa this past year so the Kid can throwdown and did I mention the kid is going into 10th grade! Nice credentials to have being a Highschool state champion as a 7th grader.

How do you use them? How heavy should I get them? I'm already short, will they stunt my growth? Were you suggesting that I should stay my current weight, or cut?

How would they not add bulk if you're gaining muscle mass, strength, and endurance?

No kettlebells are a natural way of gaining strength. My kids use 10 lbs but my kids are 10 and about 80 ponds so i would get like 15 or 20 lbs max for you. Did you watch the Vids on youtube? Kettlebells will give a long lean muscle that gives you more flexability than a bulging muscle. great for cardio as well. Devos swears by them and that kid is super strong but moves very well. It is the new thing in power and endurance. The russians have used them for years. My brother is the one that got my kids lifting them because my boys wanted to get stronger and I won't let them lift yet. He is a teacher and football coach and he would not do anything to hurt my boys. Since you are young cutting more than acouple pounds is crazy. Relax and do push-ups.pull-ups and try the kettlebells for a year and worry about cutting in a few years. A good grip and strong legs will take you a long way in wrestling. The bulging biceps look cool but if you don't have strong legs you are way to predictable on the mat. Long stringy muscles give you alot more flexability. When I wrestled I was cutting 30 pounds and now I have a hard time gaining weight because I don't eat.

you want to learn about kettlebells, seek the help of a certified professional. they are not like free weights, and if used incorrectly can be extremely dangerous. youtube videos are great to check out, but imo, you need one on one/group instruction. If you watch anything on youtube, watch the IKFF channel or youtube steve cotter or ken blackburn. They are at the forefront of kettlebell lifting. that said, jonjon is right kettlebells are the best strength training tool I have ever used.

    I am 15 and a half.
Thanks Guys! I just don't understand how kettle bells "magically" strengthens a different strands of your muscle without bulking up and still produce more strength.

By the way, I'm broke. I just bought an expensive electric scale and a HD video camera, at this point I really couldn't afford a whole set of kettlebells. I don't want to just buy one kettlebell and then later on it becomes to easy and a waste of my time.... Tips?

I had you mixed up with another young man who was seeking to get stronger. 15 is a good age to lift so ask questions from certified trainers, coaches and your parents. I was just trying to give you some ideas

just a thought, here they have a chain of stores called "Play it again sports" so I traded some old or too small wrestling shoes from my kids and got a great deal. The great things about kettleballs there is alot of things you can do with them. Many differant ways to workout with them as you can see in the youtube videos. 50 bucks would most likely hook you up with a great workout. You don't need a whole set. 2 kettlebells at about 20 lbs a piece would help you out. I also purchased "perfect pushups" which are a good workout for your pecs as well as arms. I have an old waterlogged 4by4 board about 8 feet long that the boys lift like a military press and they roll a tire up hill so you can get pretty inventive. I hope you find a great workout that suits you. I remember when i was in HS we had coffee cans filled with cement with a bar between them to look like a barbell at our school. So I have seen primitive ways to workout. The weight room at our school is open everyday for kids to workout so you may have to do alittle digging but their are ways to get stronger. If your arms feel the pain you are gaining in strength so don't think you have to lift to the max to build. So one set of kettlebells is a good way to start and you cannot damamge them so here in minnesota anyway I will take them in and trade them for a larger set when my boys are ready for it.Hope you get achance to workout with them and let me know what you think
