    Default Concerned Older Brother

    Dear all,

Thank you for taking the time to read my post. My younger brother is currently a junior in high school and is on the wrestling team. There is a slight problem though- his high school coach has never actually wrestled a match before. Our school is terribly underfunded and our wrestling coach is simply the football coach. I respect him for his effort, but even on good days his advice can be at best, limited.

I feel this is a complete waste because I know my brother has a potent mind for wrestling and he is also freakishly strong. But I am concerned his technique, or lack thereof, will bring him down at some point. He could also use some more conditioning. Needless to say, I feel this is a complete waste of potential.

I have considered sending him to a camp, notably J. Robinson's intensive one. He is slightly apprehensive about going but after hearing stories I am convinced that this camp would provide results. Given this situation, would J. Robinson's camp be a good idea? Does anyone have any other suggestions? He only has one year left.

    Thank you.

With only a year left, a summer camp would be a great thing to do. Maybe one geared more towards technique.

I agree with tiger, the camp should be a technique intensive camp. You can also talk with some other area coach's because many of them open up there wrestling rooms a few nights a week in the off season. (if there is an off season in wrestling . You can also ask about local wrestling clubs that he can join, some clubs have kids from lots of different school's. This is a good way to learn new technique and make new friends.

Where do you live? What region? J Robinson, Oregon State, Iowa are all good. It depends on what region of the country you are in.

Sounds like a team camp might be of value too. Coaches can attend with the team and I'm sure that would benefit the coach.
Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.

You might also try to get the coach to attend the camp with your brother. This could help your brother and the rest of the team during next season.

I wonder what he's apprehensive about at Robinson? Heh, YOU should give him sessions! And let him win a lot too!
