Do I go to wrestling camp or conditioning with my team?
I'm a junior in high school and well there's only January and February left until my season is over. Next year will be my last year, but I'm kinda stuck between 2 decisions on what I could do in the summer. I stuck between going to a wrestling summer camp or doing conditioning that my coach has in the summer. Which one do you guys think is better?

I would definately recommend an intensive wrestling camp. It will get you in good shape as well as teach you how to condition yourself all well helping you become a better wrestler. If you go to one around two weeks long (i.e. Iowa, Oklahoma State, or JRob 14 day) you can possibly do both the camp and your coached conditioning program while if you go to a long one (i.e. Iowa State or JRob 28 day) you will be in awesome shape and probably better shape than you would be doing just a conditioning program. Also you need to be in shape in the offseason as well as the season so you should probably get a gym membership too because it doesn't matter how strong or how good of shape you are in during the offseason if you are weak and out of shape in season. It is ok to condition by yourself. Just make sure you are on a productive program.
With all that being said, what camp are you considering going to?

I don't really know the names. The idea to go to camp was more of an inspiration. I was at a tournament and with one team only 1 guy got to the finals. The coach said it was because he has been wrestling in the offseason with camp in the summer and then post/preseason conditioning his coach had. What I'm interested in is a local camp (i live in virginia so somewhere there). I'm guessing the best camp is in Iowa since that's all I hear people talking about. Aren't they like the best team in the NCAA? So do you think a local camp would provide a good substitute to one in Iowa? As to what the camp will have, well practices of course, and chances to wrestle in some tourneys and dual meets if possible. Do any camps have those?

Yes Iowa is the best team in the NCAA. I would recommend there camp. I went and it was AMAZING! You get top quality instruction not to mention they help get you in tremendous shape. The most famous of the Intensive Camps are the J Robinson camps which are extremely beneficial as well. I know Grundys team wrestled at Iowa and they have a similar style. I met alot of them at Iowa's Camp and they also have gone to JRob. So if you could attend one of there camps that would probably help but I would definately advocate going to an Iowa or JRob Intensive Camp. It is worth the money and the work.

I wish I could go to a camp but they are really expensive and I would probably have to pay for myself. I say go to the camp if you can. You don't want to miss out on something like that.

Doing a little searching I found out that the famous granby system has one of their wrestling camps in-state. (virginia beach, va). Anyone think granby is a good camp? I didn't see any intensive summer camps. Just technique and team ones. (since i'm the one going, i would only be ellgible for the technique one right?)

Actually I read that you can go to the team one and hop on a team. Because not all teams come complete. But that was on the navy wrestling site. Probably the same throughout all of them.
But I would go for technique myself I wouldn't want to be with a bunch of random kids

Re: Do I go to wrestling camp or conditioning with my team?
Well everyone seems to think that the intensive camps are the best. all i want is a camp where i can learn (cause there's always room to learn more) and then a good workout seeing as the camps have buffet style meals. I probably have a better chance at attending a granby camp because the others are out of state which means i probably need a plane and then the price is in the thousands. Sigh...money is the only issue. Other than that I'd be heading to Iowa.
