I was wrestling this guy today and he was short, and on top of that, he had a really low, solid stance. And he had his back stance straight and about 90 degrees to his legs which made it more daunting to pass his defense. I ended up not taking any shots. Can you guys give me some ideas on what to do?

    Snap down and spin behind.

Ankle pick the leg that doesn't have a knee on the mat..

If you can pull his head to one side and get an angle on the other side, grab that leg and try to get a near side cradle.

Snap his head down and go into a front head lock. Remember to cup the chin. Then pull him back and the moment you feel his hands hit the mat spin behind while his momentum is still going forward.

You could also go for a low sweep single or an ankle pick. If you go for a double or high crotch he'll probably just stop you in your tracks with a stance as low as you are describing it. You have to wrestle different people different ways.

Snap down, spin or shuck his head.

Maybe some cement mixers, or underhooks.

Or work him around/knock his head around to get him out of position, and then go in for a shot.

Just constantly hit em with collar ties and move your feet. Something should open up.

As somebody who stays low and is short with short legs here is how you wrestle me...... ankle picks work really good on me but committ to them. Also, bang my head working for front headlocks. I am solid so you probably won't get them, but you will wear me out, and get me standing up a little more, at which point a power double is there off of a set up. If you are tall and leveraged then after you have gotten me to stand up a bit, get in underhooks and try to jack me up, again I will probably work out, but you are wearing me out, and controlling position. When you control position all kinds of things open up.
I am 49, bald, ugly, and don't own a single cool thing. Kids like me though.

Everyone's said front headlock, which I would suggest too. Also, if he's low because he's short, you can underhook him and elevate him...short guys like me hate that. Use your longer arms to reach your opponent while he can't reach you. If he's a tall guy who just has a really low stance, try to wear him down... low stances are hard on your legs, and a lot of guys will stand up more when they get tired. Then you can take his legs.

BTW I just realized sgallan and I said basically the same things. I guess great minds and short wrestlers think alike
