Default How do you know when You are getting better at wrestling?

I am a new wrestler who just got started three months ago, but I don't know if I am getting better because I have to wrestle a guy who has been wrestling since he was four. How would you know if you are getting better.

you should be able to be catching him in moves better and taking more points. Standing up easier and more often. Defending the takedown better. Takin him down better. I started only 3 weeks ago and my first week i felt like crap. Ive only done it twice. Yes once the first week. I had to skip the next one. Then this week i was beating guys an controling them with just one practice. but i have had 3 years of expeirence. BAD EXPERIENCE. an old coach who didn't coach us well AT ALL. no disciplione. no nothing. so this is practically my first well learning year. So it just takes practice and getting into it to know that your getting better. Like i wrestled a guy this week who i defended like 8/10 takedowns. Whiel he defended like 9/10 takedowns. He placed 2nd in sectionals and qualified for states. So im actually pretty excited about that. As long as in 2 more weeks i will be putting him down like over 50% of the time. Than i have football than, during the season he wont be there cuz hes on another team. but you GET WHAT IM SAYING. If you are in better position. doign better, and being more successful in areas, u are improving. good luck

Once you realize what you are doing wrong and what you need to do to get it right. That doesn't mean you will be able to do it, but just knowing what you are doing wrong is a turning point. The dude you are wrestling can probably help you. Don't be afraid to ask him.

You know your getting better by just drilling it over and over. Going to practice everyday. You'll find that you can go through moves smoother. Usually I'm terrible in the beginning of the year. I'm out of breath after the first period. As the season goes on and on I don't get tired as much, I can get takedowns easier.

The only problem I have this year is a bad coach who doesn't know any finishing moves other than cradle and half nelson. =(

Kids win NCAA titles with less. I'm sure you aren't perfect at doing either yet, so keep practicing them until you are.. then move on to something else.

I hope many will agree with me when I say this : The basics are all you really need. Look at Brent Metcalf

Anyway, I think you start getting better once you apply your moves with confidence. You should be able to do things without even thinking.
