Am I blind, or has the box that used to display the most recent posts disappeared? |

Latest Activity shouldn't be the first banner you see when you log on.

Most visitors to the front page (~65%) are members of the site who already know the layout and how to use the jump menu if they don't want to respond to a new thread on that list. Like everything else, if it is hated enough, it will go... but you can always just click the + sign and shrink it |

I'm w/ RYou, I think having the latest activity posts at the top and having to scroll down to get to the forums is extremely annoying.

It would be cool if the latest posts box could be moved under the random images... I think that would be a good location for it (if possible).
