I don't get the magnifying glass, but if I click on the picture it does zoom in.
There's another message board I go on where I see the same feature, and the magnifying glass does show up.

On my Mac:
Safari - magnifying glass shows up
Firefox, Netscape - no magnifying glass, it shows as a hand, but the zoom feature still works the same
IE - the full size image loads automatically
