    I
haven't heard anything about it, but I don't expect them to do 185
again.  I bet they will do Heavyweight and 155 for sure.  I
would love to fight in the UFC, but it's a big step from Freestyle Cage
Fighting.  You have to be well rounded in your fight game to
    compete with the best.

    I
may fly into Hollywood, Florida this weekend.  They are having an
open audition.  I'm pretty well rested up after the fight and RPW
Trials - I'm glad that I didn't wrestle in the OK Open, because it
would have hard to recover.  If I go to the auditions I can't post
any information, but I do plan on going.

    185LB FREESTYLE CAGE FIGHTING CHAMPION!

    It
was my toughest fight ever, he had great stand-up and an expert in
subs.  I fought off a lot of Triangle Chokes and a couple arm bars
    - conditioning played a big factor in this fight.  I ended up
slamming him with a double so hard that it broke his ribs!  I have
to work on my boxing!  Here are some pics - I may take a fight on
the 30th of November in KC,Mo - but I'm not sure yet.

    I
have to give thanks to all my friends, family, and fans for all of the
support.  Another special thanks to my strength/conditioning
    trainer Wes Wright.

I'm 4-0 with all 4 wins by KO in the 2nd round................

    "

Congratulations Gerald! Way to go man! I hope to see a lot more wins outta you.

    I
have many all time favorite college wrestlers but here are some that
make my top list. Johnny Thompson, Jamie Heidt, Doc Vecchio, LeRoy
Vega, Travis Shufelt, David Bolyard and Tom Clum.

    :Reply to an e-mail:
Someone asked if it was hard to go from Freestyle/Folkstyle to MMA Fights
Yes, and I suggest to anyone out there to set time aside to focus on whatever competition that you are getting yourself into. I am taking time away from fighting to train for Midlands and I'll do the same for U.S. Nationals. My next fight is in January, so I will have plenty of time to focus on technique when the conditioning will be there.
The biggest difference is the takedowns. You don't see low singles and hand fighting in MMA, your getting puched, kicked, or knee'd then theres a descent shot. I have to make adjustments in my stance, because I stand up during fights and I don't really mind people shooting, because you can really punish them.
Well, I'm headed off to my old stomping grounds at CSU to get some training in soon. I'll see yall in Chicago......If I have my wireless internet hooked up to my laptop, I'll post my results.

To answer the two questions - I am competing in folkstyle to keep up on my skills for MMA, but it is very different. I'm in the position to do that because I'm not a full-time fighter. I have a regular job, but when I can fight full-time. I plan on just coaching and fighting.

To get into Midlands you have to fill out a form and wait for an acceptance. They probably invite past champions, CSU sent me the form (Effner) and he said that i should get aprooved. I haven't been there since 2002

It's going to be a good to be back on the mat with my old teammates.

Did you change your weight training routines with the switch from wrestling to MMA?  More
or less work in the weightroom (or just different?)?  More or
less body weight exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, etc.)?

Greater emphasis on pushing exercises?  Focus on different body
    parts?

You mentioned above no more free weights for a while -
what's the reasoning behind that?  Just curious.  Good luck
    at the Midlands!

    You heard me, Coltrane.

Did you change your weight training routines with the switch from wrestling to MMA?

Yes, because I have been doing the same routine every since my freshman
year in college.  I have a personal trainer for strength.  I
train with Kettle Balls, Strength Bells, etc.  I push and drag
sleds - It's kind of an old school work out, but I feel stronger than
ever.  I also get more down time to rest between fights.

More or less work in the weightroom (or just different?)?
    About the same - I go 3 - 4 times a week

More or less body weight exercises (push-ups, pull-ups, etc.)?
Yes, also as a brief work-out close to the fight.

Greater emphasis on pushing exercises?  Focus on different body parts?
    Yes,
but only pushing with my entire body.  No bench press, a lot of
military, dips, squats, motion designed work outs.  I get a total
body work out and conditioning at the same time.

You mentioned above no more free weights for a while - what's the reasoning behind that?  Just curious.  It will give my body time to get use to this new strength system, then I can do a mixture of both.

    Good luck at the Midlands!
    Thanks!

    Herbert
is hurt and probably focusing on the NCAA's in March.  I don't
really compare myself to college wrestlers, because it doesn't really
seem right.  I could simply say that I'm a lot smarter than I was
in college - coaching kinda opens your eyes up a lot more.  After
this tournament, I don't plan on going folkstyle again.  I will
have the advantage on my feet, but it's kinda wierd going folkstyle
after fighting people laying on there backs.  Oh yeah, I'm 1-1
against Wissell - I beat him in college and he beat me in the RPW
    Trials.
