In 6 minutes of cumulative scoring a 1 point shot clock violation should not kill you.

    It is.

Wrestling will probably always face the same dilemma. If you penalize athletes for being passive, you get the referees involved. If you don't penalize them, you encourage defensive wrestlers to do absolutely nothing. I don't think there is a perfect solution. I see the shot clock as a creative attempt to force action while involving the refs as little as possible. I'd also like to know how things will be called if the wrestler whose opponent is on the shot clock chooses to stall like crazy.

I wish they had a sudden-death overtime instread of criteria for determinng a winner in the case of a tie. IF that takes too long, maybe a 30-second par terre tiebreaker (as olddirty suggested on another forum).

Now I'm reading on the other site that they are considering implementing OT (instead of criteria) for the US trials. To that I say HELL YES!!! There's nothing like sudden death OT.

    Thanks found it.

Not sure if I appreciate the McIlravy reminder! Though I'm sure it was a fine moment for you...

I like the no-limit with the smaller mat option personally.

Me too. Might make tournaments go long, but I don't really care. Let them wrestle.

VA, that Igali match is my favorite wrestling moment (as a spectator). Epic match, great finish for Canada. It was the first OT match that came to mind that shows how great overtime can be. Personally I think folkstyle wrestlng should go to an unlimited sudden death OT as well... and MMA should have a tiebreaking round in the case of ties or split decisions.

I assume you mean starting neutral and first point scored wins - takedown, stalling, unsportsmanlike conduct, or whatever. If so, it reflects your preference for freestyle, where takedowns are emphasized. I like the current folkstyle overtime system where wrestling from all three positions is included, and if a good mat wrestler can avoid being taken down, he can win.
Atrophy: what you get when you win atournament.
