On the weekend, former Cowboys were featured in five of the seven freestyle finals.
At 55 kg, top-seeded Blanc dominated the bracket, allowing only three points the whole day. In his opening match, Blanc defeated Nico Megaludis with ease, 2-0, 1-0. He moved on in the tournament and was pitted against Steve Mytych, where he took the match in just two periods, 1-0, 1-0. In the semis, Blanc faced Mark McKnight, who put up three points against the Cowboy, but it was not enough as Blanc went on to defeat him, 0-2, 1-1, 3-0. He advanced to the finals, where he took on Frank Perrelli and continued his dominance, controlling the bout 6-0, 4-0, and taking home the 55kg title. *
Scott, a 2012 Olympic Bronze medalist at 60 kg, made a run through the bracket, but it was not enough as he fell in the finals. In the first round versus Norman Richmond, Scott put it to a quick end, winning 1-0, 7-0. In his quarterfinal match against Danny Mitcheff, Scott grabbed a nail-biting 0-2, 1-1, 1-1 win, scoring takedowns late in the second and third periods. He cruised to the finals when he took the first period against Tyler Graff before pinning him 39 seconds into the second period of the semis. In the 60 kg final, Scott went head-to-head with Reece Humphrey, where he suffered a 2-0, 1-0 loss to finish second in the bracket.
Pendleton, a former 174-pounder for the Pokes and a current assistant coach at Wyoming, took out the No. 1 and No. 5 seeds en route to taking second place at 96 kilos. He snatched the first two matches each in two periods, defeating Jacob Marrs, 2-0, 1-0, and Dustin Kilgore, 3-1, 2-1, respectively. In the semis, Pendleton knocked off top-ranked Wynn Michalak, 4-1, 1-3, 3-3, propelling him to the finals to face J.D. Bergman. Pendleton lost the first period, 1-0, on a leg clinch and couldn’t produce enough momentum in the second, falling 1-0, 2-1.
