Badgers earn third-straight Top 10 finish at NCAAs

Philadelphia, Pa.-- The Wisconsin wrestling team finished the 2011 Division I NCAA Wrestling Championships in 10th place with 54.5 points. This is UW?s third-consecutive top 10 finish at the Championships.
Penn State won its first NCCA team title in 58 years with 107.5 points, followed by Cornell with 93.5 points and Iowa with 86.5 points.
Four Badgers claimed All-America honors, placing in the top seven of their weight class, including junior Andrew Howe, who finished in third place at 165 lbs.
Redshirt senior Trevor Brandvold and junior Travis Rutt slated their best career finishes at the Championships, while redshirt sophomore Tyler Graff matched his best career finish.
Howe?s third place finish at 165 lbs. earned him his third All-America honors, including his 2010 title and second place finish in 2009. He is just the 11th wrestler in school history *to slate at least three All-America honors and the first since Wisconsin associate head coach and former Badger Donny Pritzlaff collected four honors from 1998-2001.
Brandvold concludes his collegiate career with his most successful season at UW, grabbing fourth place at 197 lbs. Brandvold leaves Wisconsin with two-time All-America honors and ends his final season with an 18-2 overall record.
Graff placed fifth at the NCAA Championships for the second-straight year, earning his second All-America honor. Graff finishes his second season of eligibility with a 31-5 overall record at 133 lbs.
Rutt?s seventh place result earned him his first All-America honors and best finish of his career. He boasts a 34-4 overall record, a team-high this season.
Redshirt sophomore Cole Schmitt?s season ended in the wrestlebacks at 149 lbs. Schmitt recorded a 1-2 record at this year?s Championships and ends the season with an 18-12 overall record.
Redshirt senior Eric Bugenhagen?s collegiate career also ended in the heavyweight wrestlebacks. Bugenhagen finished his final season with the Badgers with a 25-13 overall record, including a career-best third place finish at the 2011 Big Ten Championships.
Redshirt sophomore Ben Jordan's run at his first NCAA tournament ended with two-straight losses at 174 lbs. Jordan was ranked as high as 12th in the nation in his weight class and ends his season with a 16-13 record.
