    No, it was a perfectly used comma! You used it to set off an independent clause.

    Actually, you used the semicolon correctly in that instance. Did you mean to?

    For the record, I am TERRIBLE about ending a sentence with a preposition. I think it's a Chicago thing.

    I had a short-lived affair with semicolons. About the time I figured out what they were good for, and started using them, a writing instructor told me they were pretty much persona non grata in sentences.

    One of my pet peeves is misplacement of the apostrophe in y'all. People frequently use ya'll.
