TUF 13 Finale: Anthony Pettis and Clay Guida To Fight
WEC lightweight champion Anthony Pettis (13-1-0) will finally get his first fight in the UFC in the The Ultimate Fighter 13 Finale on June 4, MMAJunkie.com reports. He will face "The Carpenter," Clay Guida (28-11-0).
Unfortunately for Pettis though, it won't be the title shot that was promised to him when he beat former WEC lightweight champion Ben Henderson by a unanimous decision at WEC 53, the final WEC event before its merger with the UFC. We all remember him launching off the cage and, in mid-air, connecting with a right kick straight to Henderson's head.
Clay Guida is on a three-fight winning streak. He hasn't lost since Kenny Florian put him in a rear-naked choke at UFC 107. Guida is only four fights removed from his "Fight of the Year" fight with fellow lightweight Diego Sanchez that ended with a split decision.
Guida, in his last three fights, has submitted each fighter. Clay's last fight, versus Takanori Gomi, ended in a guillotine choke at UFC 125 on New Year's Day of this year. On top of that, Guida has earned "Submission of the Night" honors twice in his last three fights.
Guida has 15 submissions out of his 28 wins.
Anthony Pettis has said before that he would not wait for the Maynard vs. Edgar rematch for the lightweight title. Now, Pettis will risk his No. 1 contender title versus Clay Guida.
Guida has rarely been in a boring fight. Clay goes all out in each fight, and no matter what risks it all. These are two exciting fighters in what should be an entertaining fight.
The Ultimate Fighter 13 will feature welterweights coached by heavyweights Brock Lesnar and Junior dos Santos.
