Where did everybody go? I have been to about 6 tournaments this year so far. My friends gained more weight than me so I'm not wrestling them anymore at tournaments. I met and wrestled a new kid who is good. I never wrestled him before. I wrestled him at 3 tournaments and lost all 3 times. He does the headlock and front headlock. I got really frustrated during the first match I had with him. I was ahead for most of the match but couldn't do what I wanted. In the last 10 seconds he got me on my back and I lost 5 to 3. I cried hard after that and was really mad. My Dad told me that this year is the year we need to really work on getting my emotions under control and not worrying so much that I can't concentrate during wrestling and can't have fun after. I haven't been doing as well this year as I hoped. I took last place at a tournament this year already. I haven't taken last place since my first year of wrestling. It was a tough bracket. This weekend I took 1st at Spring Lake Park and 1st at Richfield. They were both small tournaments. The week before that I took first at Eden Prairie. I wrestled this kid from Waconia and won in overtime and he was a poor sport and came at me after I won and then yanked my hand instead of shook it and walked away. The ref told him to come back and made him shake my hand. My Dad told him he was a good wrestler then his grandpa talked with him and he came over to me and shook my hand again. He had a better attitude the second time. His grandparents said he took 2nd at NYWA State. NYWA must be for sissies and or something like that. My Dad says I'm just in a slump. I'm having trouble turning my opponents. I've been working on the double leg and I've hit some good double leg takedowns already this year. I'm still having fun even though I'm not doing as well as I wish.

I wanted to post something here before I went to bed tonight. I took first at Sibley East on December 27, 2013. The first kid was tough but I beat him 8-0. The 2nd kid was tough too but for some reason he just gave up and let me pin him in the 2nd period. The 3rd kid was also tough but I think he took last place. I pinned him with a tight half Nelson in the second period. They were all good but the first two were like me because they got flustered when they couldn't do what they wanted to. The third kid was the most mentally tough of them all. He kept trying hard no matter what. It's more fun to wrestle those kinds of kids because I feel bad for the kids that get frustrated. My Dad keeps telling me that it's good sportsmanship not to throw a fit on the mat. Now I understand better.

My sister is doing really well this year. My Dad won't let her videos be embedded on other sites so you'll have to find them here instead http://www.youtube.com/maverickwrestling

Still looking good Mavrick! Keep at it budding. You look really good in your latest video. One thing to watch for on your half nelson is to take it slow so the guy on the bottom does not roll through and put you on the bottom. Glad you still enjoy wrestling. I got to take pictures at a College and High School event called The Virginia Duals. I even saw some college kids making little mistakes that they should know better by now. Just listen to your Dad or coach when they give you advice. Whippet

Hey thanks whippet. I'm happy to see someone is still reading my posts. After I took last place earlier this year I got more determined and started working harder and I took 1st place at my next 12 tournaments in a row. I finally lost my first match in 12 tournaments this last Sunday at Lake City. I lost 0-2 so it was close. I know if I wrestle him again I can beat him. I hope I can wrestle him again later this year. I beat a kid 5-0 that beat me last year 2-10. When he beat me last year the referee made some bad calls and gave that kid points he didn't earn and didn't give me points I did earn. My Dad has it all on video but he says he won't put it on youtube because it's done and over with. I've wrestled and beat some really tuff good wrestlers this year. My Dad is taking me to White Bear Lake to practice older and bigger kids because he says I am trying to muscle kids too much and I need to learn to use better technique. I'm having a lot of fun and so is my sister and my little brother. My sister has had to wrestle a lot of older and bigger kids at tournaments this year because they can't seem to find others her age and weight to wrestle with. She's been doing well. My little brother is the big surprise this year. He has only lost one match all year so far. He's doing better than we expected. It's been very fun so far.

Wow... Great job in this video. One thing I see you need to watch is what we call draping your arm. You need to make sure you always reach under your opponents arm when you try to control his arm or hands when you are on top. That last move you did was textbook form! Awesome!!!
