This is an example of American hegemony (imposing our culture on others) and why America is not held in high regard in all places.
As one poster said, we used to take the high road. This is an example of MTV taking the low road.
Btw, MTV is owned by Viacom, who owns CBS. See who else they own: http://cjrarchives.org/tools/owners/viacom.asp
MUMBAI, India - Police arrested 70 Sikh protesters after the MTV music channel's office in western India was vandalized over posters showing a Sikh girl massaging a man, officials said Tuesday.
On Monday, protesters smashed windows with rocks, tore banners and damaged furniture in the MTV office in Mumbai, India's financial and entertainment capital, police inspector Raju More said.
The protesters said the posters, which promoted the reality show "On the Job2," offended Sikhs, More said. Sikhs comprise more than 2 percent of India's 1.1 billion people.
Police later released the protesters on bail, he said.
This is one small act in the big picture of India.
The British culture is much larger in India than American culture.
I spent some time over there working and almost everyone I worked with wanted to know all about American culture. How we dressed, what music we listen to, ect....
You also need to understand the culture there. Different groups there protest all the time. The only reason we are even hearing about this is because it has to do with MTV.
I will admit that I only spent time in one city (Bangalore) and only spent 5 weeks there so I did not see the whole country. However, this is what i observed and was told by the people i interacted with.
Just thought I'd show the other side of the coin. However, in the case of MTV I would agree that it is one of the worst cultural influences our nation could offer to any other nation.
