Default Contrast in Style or Personality

The difference I read into these two comments is clearly one of personality.

Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama, beginning a tour of hospitals in Eugene, Ore., told reporters that he had been in touch with the senator's family. "Ted Kennedy is a giant in American political history. He's done more for health care than just about anybody in history. We are going to be rooting for him. I insist on being optimistic about how it's going to turn out."

Hillary Clinton, also a candidate for the Democratic nomination, had this to say regarding Kennedy: "My thoughts and prayers are with Ted Kennedy and his family today. We all wish him well and a quick recovery."

One comment from the person, the other from the machine.

or the people who wrote it for them had different opinions on how to word it.

I'd rather have thoughts and prayers rather than "rooting" personally. (probably not from Hillary though, I'd probably be killed faster.)

A. So cliche.
B. My ? No Bill ? Do I sense a total political separation for the audience? Still, this was a personal message that should have included Billybob

I agree, but you could just as easily tear apart : "I insist on being optimistic about how it's going to turn out."

Im obviously no fan of the Clinton's but for the life of me I dont think there was anything wrong with what she said. If the shoe was on the other foot I doubt Obasma would have said much different.

I think this is a good example of searching for something to be offended by.

TW, I agree. If we watch every word spoken by a person and subject them to extreme critical scrutiny, we can find something wrong in anything/everything they say. Perhaps we need to look at a larger picture in selecting our political leaders.

To the contrary, I find one's personality a clear indication of their position and direction for their term in office.

Slick Willy was clearly a Slicky Willy.

Bushy is clearly a good ol' boy.

Look deep enough and you'll find the reflected image.

An optimistic President is what we have now, and look how that's turned out. He was optimistic that we'd be greeted as liberators, optimistic that there would be WMDs, optimistic that the mission was accomplished, optimistic that Brownie was doing a heck of a job, etc.

I'm not saying that I want a pessimist. I just want a realist who can and will make sound decisions based on facts, not what is thought or hoped to be the case.
