| Re: Anti-Immigrant Sentiment The problem is, there's no shortage of political opportunists who'll lie or misrepresent the meaning of the law, in order to score political points or advertising dollars.
The problem is, there's no shortage of people who'll believe anything they read (that which our mothers warned us against) so long as it demeans those who are different than they are, or who they don't understand.
Unauthorized immigrants are not entitled to federal benefits, including food stamps or Social Security. Period. It hasn't always been that way but the Social Security law changed in 1996. |

| Re: Anti-Immigrant Sentiment Profit? Can't avoid using rhetorical exaggerations, can you?
We see how this plays out: someone makes a false statement that unauthorized immigrants get Social Security. I say no, not true. They repeat this false statement. I say no. Someone else finds some misleading information on the internet to attempt to support false claims one and two. Again, I point out the error. Finally, King Kong in a supposed fit of clarity says, what we really meant was...the kids (who are not unauthorized) get benefits (careful to avoid the detail that only disabled children get Social Security in their own right--a pretty small group--so maybe he's talking about food stamps or some other benefit) while further muddying the waters by making rhetorical exaggerations that "they" (those people he loathes) "profit" from their children--as if someone's getting rich on food stamps or taking their kids to the doctor. Of course, if "they" have no children, no dollars at all. But, hey, let's exaggerate. Let's fabricate. Let's obfuscate. Truth and accuracy be damned. No exaggeration is too extreme when your object is hate.
And let's be clear: all this sort of exaggeration is designed to demean someone and/or create anger or fear. It's doesn't do a thing to further public policy or education. If our government officials made all their decisions based on false or misleading information, what would we get? Bad policy. Bad government. |

I gave you a perfect example of how illegals are able to get government benefits...
And clone, I don't hate anyone other than Hawkeye wrestling fans(j/k...NOT ) and morons like you that charge racism at the drop of the hat as a lone line of defense! |

My Mood: | Re: Anti-Immigrant Sentiment In California ,the late 80's -illegals used to ride around on bicycles selling weed -they'd get arrested ,deported andbe back on their bikes in a week . When I told you about my friend getting killed you insinuated I was lying -but all they did [at that time ]was deport illegals . This was when the state of California , in it's infinite wisdom , made all public notices bi-lingual .Right /wrong ,I don't care . But I defy anyone to take a stroll down the boardwalk of Venice Beach these days .
As for benefits -they do get them .PERIOD. You are wrong -accept it or not , once again -I don't care . |

Well, would I be racist if I said the correct answer? Europe.
This is cut and pasted from some data that I use concerning where "illegals" come from. - 60% of all illegal immigrants in the U.S. are from Europe on expired visas.
- There are 50,000 undocumented workers from Northern Ireland that currently live in Boston because of the political strife in N. Ireland.

My Mood: | Re: Anti-Immigrant Sentiment I think those figures are misleading imo. They can count those because they have records of expired visas. 50,000 from Ireland is a drop in the bucket when its compared to Mexicans in the United States here illegally. We're talking about multiple millions from the south that are here illegally. They're illegal aliens -- not undocumented immigrants. And there are many millions here.
