Since when did everyone in this country become so law abiding and such strict adherents to "law and order?" Politically, we overlook such "law breaking" all of the time, if the "criminal" is of our own party.

I always find this argument a bit of a smoke screen, as I've yet to meet a person who doesn't break the law.

I think we got off topic a little from the thread that Ban intended. I agree with Ban that it is too bad that Legal Immigrants are treated (by some) the way are.

Ban, I can't remember the last time I went a whole day without breaking some law, I doubt most people could either.

Legal and illegal are two peas in a pod. It is the same issue ideologically with Americans. Our entire history has been to denigrate and detest immigrant groups' arrival to the U.S.

What people say about "illegals" is exactly what we were saying about legals right up to the point where "illegals" suddenly began dominating the discussion. It is all of the same sentiment: fear of a loss of our "American culture."

Yes you are correct....what was I thinking breaking into a country and going 5 mph over the speed limit (which is the one most people break on a daily basis) is pretty much the same. Are you kidding me?

Please expand...i never said everyone always followed the law. Those that don't and get caught pay the price.

You are right pretty much everyone has broken the law and if caught they pay the price. I said it before. The majority of us don't break many laws besides speeding and there is a big difference between that and breaking into a country!

Then, maybe that needs to be specified. I think that for most it is very deliberate to use the phrase "law breaking" to tap into the "us against them" mentality that this issue feeds off of. As long as people specify, jerks like me won't point that out.

"I should not have to pay for everything they need. I should not have to learn spanish in order to accomidate them."

-If we "legalized" them you wouldn't have to pay for everything they need. And what exactly do they need that you have to pay for?

Go back to my point as to why we should reward illegal behavior. 2nd is I would still be paying for them through my taxes.

-Why do you have to learn spanish, is this a new law where you live? If it is it a good idea, I think our country would be better off if everyone learned a second language.

There are a lot of places where I live that you need to a know a little bit of spanish now just to get by. In schools they have annoucements in Spanish. What about the kids that don't know Spanish? At fast food restraunts here a lot of the workers barely speak English so if you don't know a little spanish your order will be jacked. In Walmarts and Targets the announcements are in Spanish.

Again why should I be forced to learn a second language because of those who break into this country won't learn our language.

You act as if this country is a private home just for the privileged few. Does the heinous crime of trying to find a better life for their family make it ok for Americans to perpetrate the hateful sentiment that ban is talking about?

By the way, Chance, are you a Native American?

The United States doesn't have an official language. Are the announcements only in Spanish? And what do your taxes pay for with illegal immigrants? They don't have social security numbers, so they can't get very many social services. I always wonder when people say "my taxes are paying for them." How? Doing what?
