Default President commutes Libby's prison sentence

Libby's still has the conviction but he doesn't have to go to jail.

I didn't know the President could do that. Kinda gives the impression that some people are above the law, no?

One criminal is pardoning another criminal.

The President has the priviledge to commute the sentence of anyone he so chooses. Betcha he commutes 125-150 sentences annually. Yes, Clinton did it too. The last biggy to get the pardon - Nixon by Pres Ford - pardoned before Watergate even went to trial.

According to the news report, this is different than a pardon.

    Here's a better report, including Bush's rationale.

Its a pardon in a disguise matclone. Here is all you need to know:

"That's fantastic. It's a great relief," said former Ambassador Richard Carlson, who helped raise millions for Libby's defense fund. "Scooter Libby did not deserve to go to prison and I'm glad the president had the courage to do this."

With these millions Libby will pay his fine and will get settled comfortably into early retirement.

Not saying it's the right or wrong thing to do, but every Prez does it, just as RYou said. Most Presidents don't have the balls to do it until they are almost out the door. Here is a big-butt list of Clinton's pardons: http://www.usdoj.gov/pardon/clintonpardon_grants.htm

Marc Rich was probably the most egregious.

There's a bit history in some of the names on the Clinton list...

    Henry Ossian Flipper
    Freddie Meeks
    Preston Theodore King
    Roger Clinton Jr.

FWIW, I think that Bush should not have pardoned Libby.
