When you consider the security requirements of a public figure like Mr. Gore, limos and SUV's (Suburbans used to be the favorite, now it is the Yukon) are the practical vehicle. The vehicles require professional drivers, armor and bullet-resistant glass which is very heavy, and they have to be able to carry a lot of people. Mr. Gore's career choice will prevent him from ever driving around in a Prius, a city bus, or a bicycle.
Everone is hypoctitical to some degree whther they like it or not ..
"hypocTITical".... Hmmmmm....well I see what you have on your mind on a Saturday afternoon
I understand the need for security (bullet proof glass, etc) for Mr. Gore and family but I did find it amusing. The interviews with people who had taken taxi's to the event were pretty funny.
When Truman left office the President didn't even get that tight security -much less some Ex VP. Who would want to kill Gore that badly and , more importantly , who is dumb enough to think We would pay to get him back?

All it takes is one guy with a crush on Jodie Foster.
When Truman was President he would often go for walks around Washington D.C. He would just grab his hat and go. It drove what security there was absolutely nuts. We were waiting for a civilian flight out (Dad was in uniform so we could get a discount) and Mr. Truman walked through the airport - headed for a commercial flight. He stopped, talked to my dad for a couple of minutes, kissed my mom on the cheek, and shook my hand. (I was about 4 y.o.) He encouraged me to vote Democratic and moved on to get his flight. Dad said he had one bodyguard with him - that was the entire detail.

This was in DC, he could have taken public transportation (as he encouraged others to do) to make his point; he knows people are watching too. I was on Amtrak with Chelsea Clinton once, so it can be done.
And his limo idling for 20 minutes so the AC was ice cold when he walked in. That has nothing to do with security
A few years ago he was taking private jets to deliver his message and considering he's made $100m in speaking fees, its possible that its just a business to him. He has 20x the average electrical bill (carbon credits are mainly a scam) and he owns land he leases to miners which is the opposite as clean.

When you look at it from a leadership perspective all great leaders lead by example. Talk is cheap. Anyone can make noise but who is going to step up and be the one who sets the pace for everyone else? I don't think Al has qualified himself.
I also wonder how many people went there just to make themselves feel good about doing something but are really doing nothing at all.
When I left college a head-hunter came after me for an Advertising firm -wanted me to represent a coal company -at the time they-the coal company-was running a cartoon showing Bambi frollicking in the woods after the coal company left -which is all BS cause nothing grows for decades when a coal company roars through-they don't call it strip mining for nothing -anyway I took a teaching position-I would have taken a job at McDonalds before working for an ad agency that represented a coal company -not to mention the fact my great grandfather was killed in a coal miners strike .
