The real solution would be to help Mexico become a prosperous country so that people don't run to America. Then, give American people a better pay and they will do those other jobs.

However, greedy capitalists will not give up their profits to make the World a better place.

This is exactly why I said in another thread that thirst for immigrants is often criminal.

Again, you talk about aspirational goals (helping Mexico), and, again, I'm saying we also have to deal with practical realities, including the exploitation of workers, which you apparently oppose.

matclone, dont be so naive. These people will all become citizens with this new bill in 8 or 10 years. They will not take these dirty field jobs anymore in 8 years. They will bring their families over as well. More people. Who will do the dirty jobs? Again more immigrants without rights. You give them visas to come and work but what about those that don't get visas? They will run over illegally. It will never work.

matclone, whats aspirational to you is reality to me. Make another bill to help Mexico or it will never work. Period!

Clone I think Ryou was saying if you commit murder or get a DUI or something you dont walk away from it it follows you forever. Ryou correct me if I am wrong but that is how I read it and that you were not refering to immigrants as second class.

Look, I was referring to the misuse of the term "amnesty"--and I explained why.

RYou chose to ignore my point and take the discussion in a different direction. My response to him was sort of a dig at what he said--opening a door behind his citizen distinction. I'm sure he'd disagree with my opening that door.

As to your comment, there's a huge distinction between the transgression and the consequences of murder and unauthorized status--except for those who have no interest in recognizing such distinctions, or, as I suggested earlier, find there is no punishment too severe for being a Mexican and daring to sully your world with his presence.

Don't we already send a bunch of aid to Mexico? Isn't NAFTA supposed to help Mexico?

That was the claim made. It was also supposed to reduce unauthorized immigration but it had the opposite effect. Among other things, U.S. subsidized corn has flooded the market and put Mexican farmers out of business.

A point I believe I've made before: we want capital to move freely across borders but don't want a different sort of capital (human labor) to move so freely in return. We cant' have it both ways.

Obviously not enough. Also, raise the salaries of field workers to the level that attracts Americans. Plenty of rednecks out there that would do the job for $10 an hour.
