At least we now know in the 60s and 70s no important American was his own man and people around the World were not safe from American atrocities:
The Central Intelligence Agency will make public next week a collection of long-secret documents compiled in 1974 that detail domestic spying, assassination plots and other CIA misdeeds in the 1960s and early 1970s, the agency's director, General Michael Hayden, said Thursday.
Re: You think you live in a freedom loving country?
Let's wait until the report comes out before you label it "atrocities". I certainly hope that the CIA currently has assasination plans in place for certain world leaders, just as U.S. should have plans on the shelf for dealing with Iran, No Korea, Syria, etc...
If we were spying on US citizens for no good reason, then shame on the CIA. If we were spying on US citizens because they posed a threat somehow, then good for the CIA.

Flop,
Vietnamese and Chinese can testify to American atrocities when they were killed by Americans during Vietnam War. Meanwhile, the report will show how all the journalists covering the war and anti war leaders in America were spied upon and investigated for suspicion of Soviet ties. Surely, no freedom loving American could oppose the war on his own.
Then, the report will show US government working with CIA to get the mob to kill Castro, Is that not an atrocious plan?
Re: You think you live in a freedom loving country?
Of course, the report will not show what happened in the 80s and 90s. I would love to see how CIA helped Bin Laden, future Taliban leaders and Saddam Hussein to kill, kill, kill.

War and atrocities go hand in hand. Sad but true. It is the nature of man. Hopefully the people who performed the atrocities were court-martialed and jailed, but who knows.

It probably sounds like a pretty good plan to the Cubans who have been jailed for speaking out against Castro. Or the boat loads of people who have been shot out of the water for trying to leave the prison (er, I mean Cuba).
