I don't read The New Yorker and don't know their political philosophy but this sees pretty dumb to me. I get the connection with "The Politics of Fear" but it's not likely the magazine is going to win any friends over the cover.

I get the point of the satire, but I'm afraid it's a little too over-the-top to be appropriate for a magazine cover. It might have been better placed inside with the article.
