Default Sharia Law in Britain?

This is an interesting situation. Given the manner in which Sharia Law oppresses women is this even realistic? What is this guy thinking?

No, Cal Thomas is an idiot. The goal of Muslims is to dominate Britain. Really? If Lord Phillips opinion becomes law it will be the death warrant for his nation? Really? Are we all shitting our pants in fear yet? Do we hate anyone, yet?

What do you think about Thomas' statement here:

In his speech at an East London mosque, Lord Phillips said Muslims in Britain could use Islamic legal principles as long as punishments -- and divorce rulings -- comply with English law. Sharia law does not comply with English law. It is a law unto itself.

How can Muslims in Britain comply with English law (per Lord P.), if Sharia law does not comply with English law (per Cal T.) Do you suppose Cal Thomas is an expert on British law? Do you sense, uh, any doublespeak or inconsistency in these statements?

I starting reading the article but gave up half way through when I saw there were gaint leaps of logic that try to scare people into thinking Radical Islam is a real threat to strong democratic societies.

"Are we all shitting our pants in fear yet?" Have you checked yours lately?

Yes, Cal is overreacting but the whole idea that any nation would allow an individual group within it's borders to have their own legal system based on a particular religion is a stretch to me even though it would not entirely conflict with existing English law.

After reading Cal, my seat was brown, and I was looking to shoot someone down who looked different than me.

1. It's not their own legal system. I'm sure whatever they do, it is within British law.
2. Many laws have some religious basis to them. Even in the U.S.
3. Doesn't it trouble you when someone propagandizes like this?

If you don't like Cal Thomas, you probably won't like this guy either:

Doesn't the US do this? Indian reservations?

Not quite. For instance the Navajo nation is a sovereign nation within the US and yet they have people serving in our military and they are subject to Federal law, not state (I don't know exactly how this works but I know the FBI is called in on murder investigations). The Islamic people is England are part of the general populace so it's quite different.

I figured it was pretty upsetting to you but I doubt that you were ready to kill.

1. I don't think there's enough info in the article to know how it will work out if it becomes law.
2. That's not what we're talking about here and you know it. Separation of Church and State, you know.
3. Not really. In the U.S. we have what is known as freedom of speech. I think Cal is covered by that just like Keith Olbermann or any fringe lunatic on either side. Don't we hear this stuff all the time? He over does it in making a point but it could have serious ramifications if it plays out.
