Law abiding citizens can't defend themselves! | That is why I said reasonable. I would like to know how many murders happen each year with a hand gun that was stolen from a responsible gun owner. I am a complete supporter of the second amendment but certain areas of the country need to have more stringent guns laws to attempt to protect their citizens. Now I don't believe in a total gun ban because that limits the ability for people to defend themselves against the thugs who would still have guns.

The problem overwhelmingly with violence and hand guns do not come from licensed (legal) gun owners. Overwhelmingly gun violence is caused by the people in illegal possession of a firearm.
Minnesota a year or two ago made it much easier to get a concealed hand gun permit.
Many argued that handgun deaths would skyrocket. Since that law took effect I think there has been only 1 or 2 incidents involving anyone with a license to conceal & carry a handgun in Minnesota since the law took effect despite literally thousands of new people allowed to carry concealed handguns.
Law abiding, sane citizens should be able to own weapons to protect themselves and their families.

Law abiding citizens can't defend themselves! | The DC gun law didn't prevent any law abiding citizen from owning or keeping a gun. And I believe there was a policy that no one who used a gun for self defence would would be prosecuted for illegal gun ownership.
DC, like most other major cities, has some really bad areas and some really safe areas. I've walked around parts of DC late at night and felt perfectly safe, though there are other areas I'd avoid in the middle of the day.
I can try to find some stats (right now I'm just going by what I see on the news in the area) but some of the areas surrounding DC, where the gun ban doesn't exist, are just as dangerous as DC if not moreso.

Liberal Answer:
Well, that's not enough information to answer the question!
Does the man look poor or oppressed?
Have I ever done anything to him that is inspiring him to attack?
Could we run away?
What does my wife think?
What about the kids?
Could I possibly swing the gun like a club and knock the knife out of his hand?
What does the law say about this situation?
Is it possible he'd be happy with just killing me?
Does he definitely want to kill me or would he just be content to wound me?
If I were to grab his knees and hold on, could my family get away while he was stabbing me?
This is all so confusing! I need to debate this with some friends for a few days to try to come to a conclusion.

Wife: "Sweetheart, he looks like he's still moving, what do you kids think?"
Son: "Mom's right Dad, I saw it too..."
BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG! BANG!
Daughter: "Nice grouping Daddy" | VERY funny. but as with so many funny analogies, there is a lot of truth to it.

I own a number of guns, but I'll stick with my shotgun as my primary home defense weapon. I'll dial 911 after I empty my magazine.

If there is a Chicago ban on weapons, lots of good the ban did with 27 kids shot down. Apparently, only the good people turned in their guns.
So, why is this happening in Chicago? |
Chicago does have a handgun ban, as does Evanston and several other suburbs. Who can say that it has not been efective. It's possible that the number might have been 50 if not for the handgun ban.
Probably good people turned in their handguns, some of them were of parents of gangbangers and others. Sometimes there are guns in homes that have outlived their original purpose, say if granny wanted it for protection and has since passed away. Those guns are all potential problems for families with young children.

That said, who cares about all theses stupid side debates. The founders deemed the right to bear arms the 2nd most important concern of the PEOPLE (not the govt). Even wacks shouldn't want to be so cavalier about setting a precedent of throwing away rights (no matter what they are) without a fight. | | | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
