Default Capitalism has failed

Lets face it, capitalism has a death sentence in the name of "Limited Energy". Without growth capitalism is dead. There is no clear alternative that will replace oil for decades.

In reality, it just proves our current lifestyle is artificial and whatever problems we are facing capitalists have brought on people by addicting them to luxury and comforts.

I don't think capitalism has failed I think that we became complacent and lost our innovative spirit. Perhaps we need this challenge to get back to where we once were. I have no doubt in my mind if we had spent the last 25 years working on alternatives to fossil fuel and real fuel efficiency then we would have it. I mean we made it to the moon in ten years off a promise and nothing else.

You don't think becoming complacent and taking for granted natural resources in the name of making money is part of capitalism?

I think it is very characteristic of capitalism to blind people of any looming disasters in the name of immediate gain and luxury.

I can give numerous examples: Southerners sticking to slavery, Great Depression, many American businessmen continuing doing business with Nazi Germany, support and funding of Saddam, of future Taliban, attacking Iraq and a current mortgage crisis just to name a few.

To the contrary, Big, complacence is the hallmark of socialism, NOT capitalism. Complacence in the name of making money does not fit into capitalism because, as others have seen, it only makes money temporarily. To continue making money and growing, innovation, NOT complacence, is needed. That is what many usccessful capitalistic systems have done. Just look at IBM, Microsoft, AT&T, and countless others. They changed and adapted to keep growing, not staying complacent.

But, remember that capitalism is merely the default human condition -- it is what happens when people are free to do as they wish. And they face the consequences of their actions. Some people may be complacent and take their resources for granted, but those people face some harsh consequences. Those who choose to innovate will thrive.

Perhaps you've noticed the oil crisis in China right now. Communist China has been artificially deflating the end-user price of gasoline and oil for some time now. The government, buying oil on the open market and paying the same price we pay for it, was just eating the additional cost to keep prices to the consumer low. THey have found that their country is using more oil than the government can afford, so the governmetn is raising prices. Gasoline prices in China have more than tripled in the last 6 months -- a greater increase then capitalist America. And, the Chinese have much lower discretionary incomes than Americans, and own many more SUVs.

The complacence, taking for granted of natural resources, and blinding people to upcoming troubles was happening under communism, not under capitalism.

Under capitalism, there is always some motivating change that drives the economy to epic growth. The last one was the internet. 10 years of mega growth and economic boom for those that cared to avail themselves of the opportunities. And, I'm talking jobs, not stocks.

The next one will be alternative energy sources. Capitialism is the true mother of invention.

Is that true Big? Cause, you must not be paying attention if you think Capitalism has failed. I mean, look at China and Globalism...Capitalism has has subjugated all economic systems to itself...pretty much accepted by the entire world. Communism on the other hand has lost its final refuge of viability (USSR).

All I see is a big disaster looming over the world that capitalism has developed by blinding people's reasoning with luxury and comfort.

Its really not a disaster but what should happen, but because all the infrastructure in America and elsewhere is geared towards luxury and comfort, it will be a difficult awakening for people and it is starting already.

Communism has not failed. I see bits of it everywhere, even in America.

Certainly American society is (wrongly) ultra driven to getting more money and more stuff. But that does not mean Capitalism is bad etc. THAT problem is an American societal problem, and your right, it gets worse and worse. But, that does not mean capitalism is bad, in fact it is the best wealth producing economic system in the history of man. Granted, it is not perfect, and some suffer beneath it, but, with all its warts, it is the best we got.

Why do we talk of alternative energy sources as "innovations of the future?" They are here!!

Business interests have sought to squash all of them, while also using the tool of right wing media to dupe millions of people into believing and naysaying any type of alternate source out there. Provide ANY example of alternative sources out there that have not been deliberately shot down by these people and business interests who will lose money by using them. You can't name one. The new villian is high efficiency light bulbs.
