I'm not really a libertarian - I do believe in drastically cutting the federal government and giving more of the rights and responsibilities back to the states. There are indeed a lot of programs (like NASA) that I would like to cut out all together.

There is definitely a need for government - a few things that come to mind are military, environment, highways, mail, regulation of commerce including anti-monopoly (anti-trust?) laws, worker and consumer protection. Some of this would have to be handled at the federal level, but most could be pushed down to the local level.

I do know my Peak Oil though. Been reading about it for a long time.
