| Idiots GLADSTONE, Ore. - Authorities say a teenager from a faith-healing family died from an illness that could have been easily treated, just a few months after a toddler cousin of his died in a case that has led to criminal charges. http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080619/..._healing_death | | |

| Re: Idiots Well, isn't that kind of why they call it faith and what freedom of religion is all about? Couldn't we all be accused of "idiotic" beliefs by following some tenets of our faith?

| Re: Idiots From the article:
"Tuesday's death of 16-year-old Neil Beagley, however, may not be a crime because Oregon law allows minors 14 and older to decide for themselves whether to accept medical treatment."
Are they friggin' morons? You can't vote, you can't drink, you can't drive a car, but you can make life-determining medical decisions? I don't want to sound like an east-coast elitist, but do those hillbillies even know how to tie their shoes?

Science (eg. medicine) on one hand - religion/faith on the other. Don't use faith to deny science, and don't use scientific arguments to try to prove or disprove the existence of God. When you blur these lines you get into deep doo-doo.

It is hard to understand the reasoning of a legislative body along with a Governor coming to the conclusion that it is good policy to allow a 14 year old to make a decision of this nature. | | |

As I said, it's all about freedom of religion, to me.

Some minor wanted medical attention that was denied by a parent. Legislators then passed a law setting an age when the child can make the decision. I would not be terribly surprised to find that the law was the result of a minor seeking birth control/abortion medical services.
