Of the original 775 detainees at Gitmo over 420 have already been released without any charges having been leveled against them. Currently there are more then 50 detainees that have been cleared of all charges against them but remain in custody because the US can not find suitable countries willing to accept them . Some of these innocent men have remained in custory for more then 4 years after the determination of innocence was made by a military tribunal.
To argue this matter as if all the detainees are military combatants or terrorists is disingenuios at best. I have no pity for the guilty but we have not lived up to our duty to relocate those deemed to have been noncombantants in a timely manner. Shame on our government and shame on us for remaining silent as this injustice continues.
