Former North Carolina Sen. John Edwards called President Bush's global war on terrorism a "political slogan, a bumper sticker, that's all it is" in the second primary debate pitting the eight Democratic candidates.

Sen. Hillary Rodham Clinton, who is the front-runner in national polls, said she did not agree with Edwards' characterization of the war on terrorism.

As a senator from New York, "I have seen firsthand the terrible damage that can be inflicted on our country by a small band of terrorists." Still, she said, "I believe we are safer than we were."
