Perhaps he did not have all the facts before ho spoke to the paper.

Please explain to me how "PRIVATE" donations still belong to the school. I also said that maybe to appease the libs they should hire him in an unofficial team capacity.

Okay, so a team chaplain is a good idea because everyone can benefit from spiritual guidance. Everyone can also benefit from a good laugh, so why don't they hire a team comedian? Sexual release can help an athlete relax and perform better, so a team prostitute would also be a valuable addition to the payroll. No, I'm not equating a chaplain with a prostitute, but I'm saying that the justification for having a chaplain on the team is nebulous at best.

SL, would it make it better if he was not an offical member of the team?

I have mixed feelings on this. I can see both sides of the issue.

A team prostitute. They might actually make it into an Des Moines Register article about the Cyclones.

If you believe that everything the the University does relfects upon every member of the University community (maybe it does and maybe it doesn't ), then anyone associated with the University has a right to speak up (pro or con) about this issue. Since this is a State University, I'd extend this to all Iowans, however I do not believe that it is a question of "majority rules," but a question of what is or is not appropriate.

I believe this does affect anyone that is not directly related to or involved with the football team. I dont believe it reflects in a negative manner of the school or the team. Having him there does not hurt anyone and I dont believe it is mandatory that the athletes seek guidence from him.

    Did you mean ". . . does not affect . . .?"

Probably true, but I'll go back to the analogy of a team comedian. He doesn't hurt anyone either, but he just doesn't belong there.

You can analogise ( is that a word) anything. Should the military have chaplains?
