At the latest congressional hearing on oil prices, Maxine Waters (D-CA) threatened to 'socialize.....basically taking over and the government running all of your companies'....in an exchange with John Hofmeister (President of Shell Oil).....

Ya gotta love talk radio villains like Maxine Waters. Who would we get angry, anxious, or resentful about if we didn't have these Democratically elected "leftists" (from California!) in Congress? Just hearing the word socialize makes me want to run for the bomb shelter.

I didn't watch the vid but millions of Americans are PISSED OFF at the oil companies. The best thing that can happen to them right now is if consumption continues to drop in the huge numbers that we are beginning to see. I want those crooks to pay dearly.

We're all pissed, but not all of the blame can be placed on them -- but I hear you loud and clear. Oil is sold on the spot market everywhere like coffee, sugar, and cocoa. The price Japan pays is the same price the Brits pay, and is the same price we pay. We import 2/3 of the oil we use and a significant portion comes from countries that our hostile to us. Oil companies do not set the price of oil.

You should be pissed like I am, but I am placing some of the blame on U.S. policy which has constructed no-drill zones all over the United States including its continental shelf; not only for oil -- but also for natural gas. You should also be mad @ OPEC since they can control the price of oil simply by controlling the amount they pump out.

OPEC doesn't set the price of crude, supply and demand sets the price.

Well, yes and no, OPEC sets the output and thus controls the supply. They can also agree to lower prices even independent of output.
