I am in a bit of a quandry about shale oil.

It is my understanding that there is far more shale oil in the US than oil in the Mideast. Back when oil was hovering around $20/brl that oil would have to get past $60/brl for the refining of shale oil to become economically feasible.

So what gives?

(No conspiracy theories please)

That is true -- we have vast resources in shale oil; we have more than the rest of the world combined from the one source I saw. Whatever the number is, it's really big. I'm guessing the EPA has restrictions on it because it is dirtier? I don't know....another fine example of our government at work.
