Members of Russia's Communist Party want the new "Indiana Jones" film banned.

I think we should have a movie dealing with the early 1950's late 1940's that shows us getting along. After all, a little historical rewrite never hurt anyone. Then again, we can forget about past histories, what good is history anyway?

As to the movie, it wasn't that great, but to make a fuss over historical tensions that are played out in a movie is a little overboard. I have no issue with historical movies that puts a face on racism, suffrage, or any other number of things that the United States or any other nation has been wrong at, I do have an issue with an ideal that we never focus on historical tension though or assumes that we should rewrite history. If communists have issue with this, what must they have thought of George C. Scott when he stated those historical words of General Patton in the movie Patton regarding his view of the Russians? While one is history, the other reflects opinions during a historical time, both have legitimacy.

That said, if the Russian Communist party actually thinks their youth will believe everything in a movie where a crystal skull carved out by aliens has the potential to destroy the world, then maybe, they have bigger issues than movies like Indiana Jones or Armageddon, (which they also wanted banned.)

Now if one wanted to be offended at Kate Blanchet, it shouldn't be for her role in this movie, but her playing Bob Dylan, now that was offensive.

This movie is why many countries don't want American culture. America tries to portray everything it disagrees with as evil. Soon we will see America begging for gas for its cars though.

I never saw any Soviet movies mocking Americans.

Like it or not, the rest of the world loves American pop culture.
Hollywood movies are popular throughout the world.

I have never seen any Soviet movies at all, I didn't know they made movies in Russia unless it was an American company filming over there.

Compared to other Indiana Jones villians, the Russian Blanchett is downright friendly. She seems to work along with Indy as much as against him, and doesn't do any torturing or anything.

Most honest immigrants from Russia, those from Leningrad and Moscow, will tell you Russian movies during Soviet times were better than Hollywood movies. More substance and better actors. You can't beat Russian WWII movies and Civil war movies.

If Leningrad had plenty of anything, that would be movie theaters. There were 3 within 5 miles of my house.
