Just imagine McCain has his way and leads America to "Victory" in Iraq. He will go around saying he was right all along about Iraq and Vietnam and hence his Vietnam bitterness finally dissipates and makes him a genius in the eyes of Americans.

    Does this sound like reason?

BAGHDAD, April 2 ? A day after members of an American Congressional delegation led by Senator John McCain pointed to their brief visit to Baghdad?s central market as evidence that the new security plan for the city was working, the merchants there were incredulous about the Americans? conclusions.

The delegation arrived at the market, which is called Shorja, on Sunday with more than 100 soldiers in armored Humvees ? the equivalent of an entire company ? and attack helicopters circled overhead, a senior American military official in Baghdad said. The soldiers redirected traffic from the area and restricted access to the Americans, witnesses said, and sharpshooters were posted on the roofs. The congressmen wore bulletproof vests throughout their hourlong visit.

?They paralyzed the market when they came,? Mr. Faiyad said during an interview in his shop on Monday. ?This was only for the media.?

He added, ?This will not change anything.?

At a news conference shortly after their outing, Mr. McCain, an Arizona Republican, and his three Congressional colleagues described Shorja as a safe, bustling place full of hopeful and warmly welcoming Iraqis ? ?like a normal outdoor market in Indiana in the summertime,? offered Representative Mike Pence, an Indiana Republican who was a member of the delegation.

THE PROBLEMS in the Middle East are too deep to ever fix -I say we cut all ties to our ''ally'' Israel-and let these people carry on as they have for the last thousand years .

Once again -NEVER will there be peace in the M.E.

The 2 most idealistic and uninformed solutions to our generation's biggest threat to world peace (radical Islamic extremists)...

    1. Nuke'em all and turn the Middle East into a parking lot. (usually invoked by reps.)

    2. Leave them alone and everyone will get along. (usually invoked by dems.)

    3. Increase global warming and re-flood the whole place. (usually invoked by radical christians and the oil industry)

Politicians... McCain included, go to extremes to say what they think will get them votes.

As a Vietnam vet I don't see McCain's experience any more or less harrowing than any other veteran of that atrocity. Some made it home... many (58,000+) didn't. Some, even today, are still trying to cope and make sense of it all.

Our continuously growing "ME" society results in many being unable to see past what works for their vision of a rapidly depreciating American dream.

American voters, liberals and conservatives alike, don't have a clue or concern about the state of the union in 50 years. Many of us won't be around to worry about it. The rest are focused on what works for them, individually.
Things won are done; joy's soul lies in the doing.
William Shakespeare, Troilus and Cressida, Act 1, Scene 2
