He, as well as the men and women on commercial talk radio, and probably Olberman too (although I havent' seen his program) are engaged in a show. OReilly's is a frank appeal to a certain demographic in America. He tells them what they want to hear, while appealing, generally, to emotion rather than reason (hence the temper and shouting--a "man's" kind of emotion).

Contrast O'Reilly with most talk shows or panels on your local PBS station, or with Charlie Rose or Bill Moyers. The latter are engaged in serious discussion, the former is mainly trying to stir up his audience. It sells.

Any O'Reilly fans (or haters) should read the TheSmokingGun.com article about when he was hit with a sexual harassment suit. They have a copy of the court document, so while he does not get a chance to defend himself, it paints a very negative and amusing picture of him.

O'Reilly Hit With Sex Harass Suit
Female Fox coworker details lewd behavior of cable TV star
OCTOBER 13--Hours after Bill O'Reilly accused her of a multimillion dollar shakedown attempt, a female Fox News producer fired back at the TV star today, filing a lawsuit claiming that he subjected her to repeated instances of sexual harassment and spoke often, and explicitly, to her about phone sex, vibrators, threesomes, masturbation, the loss of his virginity, and sexual fantasies. Below you'll find a copy of Andrea Mackris's complaint, an incredible page-turner that quotes O'Reilly, 55, on all sorts of lewd matters. Based on the extensive quotations cited in the complaint, it appears a safe bet that Mackris, 33, recorded some of O'Reilly's more steamy soliloquies. For example, we direct you to his Caribbean shower fantasies. While we suggest reading the entire document, TSG will point you to interesting sections on a Thailand sex show, Al Franken, and the climax of one August 2004 phone conversation. (22 pages)

I will go on the record as one that likes Bill O'Reilly. Actually, he is the most trusted and watched news commentator in America. For those of you that think O'Reilly is a nutcase, please do tell me who your favorite news commentator is so that I can bash your baffoon.

OIC....

Its only Liberals who speak sincerely, conservatives never express how they really feel.

Maybe they're really not even real conservatives. Maybe the're all really just overly greedy closet liberals.

I have only watched his Fox program a few times and I didn't see him upset or emotional. Maybe he has calmed down some...who knows.

I have to say though that the few times I have watched him he made some very sound arguements from what I can remember.

He's a very good commentator. The hatred spewed on him isn't because of his skills as a commentator; but, rather, his stance that does not fall in line with the looney left.

In my opinion, cable TV news in general (the U.S. channels) is a vast wasteland and generally useless if one seeks to be informed on any particular issue. As I've mentioned before, and I'm saying it again, they're selling a product, not delivering news. There's a distinction.

No O'Reilly doesn't generally get upset. His usual technique is to frequently interrupt or shout down his guests. There's a film out about Fox (a different issue) that shows him browbeating a 19 year old kid whose father (I believe) was killed in Iraq so he was now protesting the war. This is appealing to the Archie Bunkers (ctc) of the world.

It could be worse. At least you didn't say, "it appeals to the meat-heads of the world". Definately a matclone.
