I think you'd be hard pressed to find anyone who agrees with them.
As for their protesting of soldiers' funerals, yes, few would agree.

However, I've argued for years that their protest of gay people-that is this group's primary target-is perfectly in cahoots with many Americans. They say exactly what many say about gay people, minus the protests at AIDS vitims's funerals, which they were doing long before they ever protested at soldier's funerals. It was only when soldiers became a target that our society became aware of them and angry at what they do.

Up until that time, heck, it was just "those weirdos" (gays) so we didn't find their actions repulsive.

Here's what Fox said: "The next thing he [the father of the girl] knew, Talis was allegedly punching Maureen,"

How can he both "know" and at the same time say someone "allegedly punched"? Doublespeak at its finest.

I fully agree it would be stupid to hit a girl in a wheelchair. But you really don't know this happened. I would suggest to you, based on this story, that it (the punching of a girl with cerebral palsy in a wheelchair by a Bush heckler) likely did not happen at all.

That's exactly what I think is happening. Thank you for recognizing my point of view. Some don't/can't.
Clone, we all know that you like to play devil's advocate and go against the grain or against common sense, just to be against something. That's all well and good, but you should understand that the devil's advocate position rarely works for you.

April 23, 2008 -- (before your post declaring there's no evidence of any wrongdoing)

A man heckling First Lady Laura Bush and daughter Jenna outside the 92nd Street Y was arrested after he punched a wheelchair-bound girl whose parents has told him to shut up, authorities said yesterday. German Talis, 22, was shouting obscenities at the Bushes, who were leaving the building Tuesday, when he crossed paths with Wendy and John Lovetro and their daughter Maureen, 18, who has cerebral palsy.

Cops broke them up and busted Talis on charges of assault and resisting arrest.

This guy WAS charged with assault and resisting arrest. You have made a lot of posts on here about people not caring for others and not being compassionate. Why are you more concerned with the guy who punched a wheelchair-bound girl than with the girl herself? I don't think many people would agree with your brand of "caring." Please review the facts before attacking other posters.

If I had a brother or a good friend who was stupid enough to enlist in this war and he got his ax shot off -which hopefully is not the case -but if such a thing did occur and you were disrespectful enough to show up 'protesting'' at his/her funeral I would probably ,almost surely , shoot your stupid ass.

    That is not true Ban.

A Southern Baptist Church in Tulsa in fact came out in force to defend one of its openly gay parishoners against Phelps and his ilk.

Ban I challenge you to find one person who had publically defended Phelps or his tactics thats NOT in his chruch.

There are biker groups that position themselves between Phelps group and the mourners and gun their engines to drown out Phelps.

Oklahoma recently passed a law that you could not publically protest within several hundred yards of a funeral. It was so far away that Phelps and his ilk gave up in Oklahoma. I suggest you call your state rep and suggest he do the same.

I agree with you, but I doubt thats his point.

I think his point is (And Ban by all means correct me if I'm wrong) something to the effect of all Christians (Republicans) hate gay people, and give the WBC a sort of tacit approval when they're gay bashing.

I never said that anyone publicly defended his positions. I said that if you ask Fred Phelps to "just start talking" about his positions on homosexuality, a good number-if not a majority- of Americans would agree with him wholeheartedly. Much like racist organizations. Tell them to keep the outward hate out of the equation and their views will jibe with many Americans'.

    What's Phelps believe in?

    • Gays are immoral.
    • Gays are against the natural order.
    • Gays are not allowed in Christianity.
    • Same sex marriage is wrong.
    • Gays are sinful.
    • Gays are repulsive. (You've said that, T_W)

That's a snapshot. Now, tell me how that differs from many others' views, even many on this very forum.
