    You have to QUALIFY for all that and often there are still co-payments. Not so under communism.

    If the government plans and builds apartment buildings there are eventually apartments for everyone who wants one and waits for it. You wait a few years and you get it. Still better than paying half of your salary every month.

    -But if you're salary is twice as much everything's a wash.

    That's not true. The prices on necessities are similar with regard to salaries.

    In any case, its the psychological appearance that causes problems. People see how much they pay and that they are free to pursue a mortgage. They also constantly hear how a house can be a great investments for the future. They see they can get loans and bang they are in debt up to their ears.
