I actually agreed with Obama in this article. The fact that parents actually need to start raising their kids and not blaming others.

I think this point should also be made to white parents, so we get off this horseshit about lack of discipline or effort being exclusive to black people (or anyone different than us)--especially this nonsense phrase about "blaming others". I don't know too many parents who go around "blaming others" although I'm sure there are a few, but it makes for a nice rhetorical soundbite when we want to demean someone else--different than us.

I think a lot of parents blame others...well where I grew up anyway. It always seemed by me to be either rich parents or very poor parents that blamed others for what their kids did.

That is just my experience though.

I know the article talked about how he was talking to a black audience...but i never said anything about black parents...i just said parents...

Both. I mentioned in another thread Brokaw's comment that we talk about race in code. You used (if unintentionally) the magic code phrase "blaming others" that white people often use when talking about black people. You'll note that Obama didnt' use that phrase--at least it's not mentioned in the article.

I was just highlighting and challenging the code concept that is out there and widely used in popular media (talk radio, cable TV, books such as Juan Williams' Enough). I wasn't focusing my criticism on you, Chance.

I'll remind you that it is Capitalism that made the poorest 10% of this country richer than the majority of the richest people in most other nations.

Have you asked yourself why parents have to work so many hours? Could it be a consfiscatory tax system? Or maybe even their desire to have 2 cars, 4 cell phones, 3 tvs (with cable), leather furniture and a credit card balance in 4 figures?

I wont bother to remind you that it is capitalism that put that computer in front of you that you now type gibberish into in addition to every other item that you own or have wished to own.
