Default The surge ain't quite surging

No one has ever questioned the ability of our military to kick ass. That is what they do. They are not cops, they are not construction folks, they are not salespeople; they are a trained fighting force with the number one goal of killing the enemy.

They can only hold their positions so long. They can't keep the fight up based on all the rules of engagement. They have done what they can. These bastard politicians who keep them over there under the auspices of fear mongering if we leave are complicit till the very end. I don't care what their political party is.

19 soldiers are dead already this month. The military is spent. They can't do much more. They are getting killed again in bigger numbers. It's falling apart again.

What is it with pro-war people? What is it that makes you sleep at night? How can you ignore all the deaths just so that you can defend Bush.

I feel sorry for Patraeus and Crocker. Patraeus is the latest fall guy. Crocker is an inept career diplomat. I also feel sorry for any of you pro-war folks that think this is a noble war and a noble cause and that armageddon will follow in the middle east if we don't "succeed" whatever the f that means.

I'm sure if you all were on the Titanic you would think that it was just a dent in the hull.

BTW, how did the political reconcilliation thing go over the last 16 months? The surge has failed. It was never going to work. Iraq is nothing but a quagmire. It has been now for over 5 years. How much longer should we be there?

What liberal blogs have you been reading, to come up with all of this dribble?

The surge has stabilized much of the country. You need to watch CSPAN, and watch the hearings to know what's going on. Obviously you don't do that. Even the Democrats in the hearings realize the surge has worked. So let me guess, you hate Bush so bad, you don't even believe your party leaders?

The surge has worked at bankrupting America more and thus achieving Al qaeda's goals.

Whatever. We are in debt up to our necks, the Iraqi govt has a surplus, oil is $112 per barrel, and we are still paying for everything over there. What is wrong with this picture?

If the surge is working so well, why can't we start pulling troops out? Basra is falling apart and the rest of the country is on thin ice. Use a little common sense here before you claim that the surge is working. When you put more police on the streets you should see a drop in crime. That doesn't mean that the neighborhood is necessarily better. Irrelevant anyway, the situation hasn't really gotten much better if at all.

Yes the military are Cops and Construction workers and Doctors, Engineers, Dentist, Cooks and these professions work along side the artillery, infantry and special ops. So if there is any other profession you want to throw out there that you think the military doest do let me know. The surge is working and General Patreas has asked for a Troop freeze which will most likely lead to a reduction soon. As long as we are there soldiers will die, but as soon as we leave thousands upon thousands will die. I didn't and don't support the war but I do support finishing what you start and finishing it the right way not just walking away. I will say if the Iraq gov. doesn't step up right now then I would fully support complete withdraw and let them fend for themselves.

The surge is a failure. There is no end in sight. Even the fall guy General admitted that. "We have not turned the corner. There is no light at the end of the tunnel. The champaign has been pushed back in the refrigerator".

I do find it amazing how you neocons will defend this war to your last dying breath.

And every last one of you does it from the safety of your PC.

AMEN!!!!

Slayer, why are re-enlistments so high if the soldiers don't believe in what they are doing?

You hate Bush...we all understand that. Hell the majority of us on here don't really like him much. You hate this war, understandable nobody likes war. But if the troops are re-enlisting at such high numbers they must see something that we don't. They must see something worth fighting for.

Remember we only see what media shows us and no matter what station they are going to put a spin on it.

slayer,

You have it all wrong. The surge is working because it has to work only until November to let Bush leave the White House.

Re-enlistments are high because soldiers' salaries along with all the bonuses and money for school put them in the upper-middle class bracket. Where else can they get that?
