I don't think kids should be fighting in cages. I don't think MMA is barbaric but I would have to draw the line with kids. We all know that wrestling is a dangerous sport if you don't know what you are doing I think it is only more dangerous to add the other disciplines to the mix with young kids. I think the age limit is important also, I would say kids below the age of sixteen should not train or participate in MMA.
Its not even so much as the aspect with the kids, kids are allowed to wrestle, box, and play jiu jitsu from whatever age, and now its suddenly the end of the world when the sports are combined. The kids are padded up like mummies its more or less just competitive sparring.
I think the thing with the kids is debatable though, and its not really my main beef.
My problem more so was the shots that he took at the sport in general. I don't know how many times he had to repeat how "barbaric" the sport supposedly is.
Well in that case I agree with you. I cant stand Hannity anyway but he shows his ignorance about the sport when he says these things.
I know that kids can participate in all of the sports MMA combines but its just something that seems wrong allowing one kid to mount another and punch him in the kidneys. Plus we have all seen how bad some wrestling refs are when it comes to protecting the kids on the mat , how bad do you think it is in youth MMA.
I watch MMA, I teach MMA (for self defense only); but, it is basically "cock fighting" and harmful - even to adults. The same is to be said about boxing. The amoung of brain damaged caused (and irreversable) is massive. Strange that Hannity would have a boxing guy cutting down cage fighting - boxing is worse as it causes massive accumulation of brain destruction.
I think boxing is much more damaging. Sanctioned MMA events have had one death, and though that is one too many, it doesn't compare to boxing's numbers. I also think that watching the UFC and then saying this sport is too dangerous for kids is like watching the NFL and then taking your kid out of Pop Warner. Just as in all kids' sports, MMA is modified at a junior level. I'd rather see kids who dream of being the next Rampage join their local wrestling team, but I completely disagree with the human cockfighting comment. There are rules, there are referees, there are stoppages to minimize irreversible damage, so it drives me nuts when I hear (or read) people saying that. I've seen many more traumatic injuries on the football field than I have in the Octagon. I don't see anyone getting up in arms about that!
But yes, Hannity is a big time d-bag. No question there.
Apparently, Michael David Smith of AOL Fanhouse and I are of the same mind this morning. Apparently, TWELVE equestrian competitors have died during practice or competition in the past year and a half. TWELVE. He asks:
Can you imagine the way the media and the politicians who think it's their job to protect us from ourselves would react if 12 mixed martial arts fighters had died in the last year and a half? There are risks associated with every sport, but when the media shine a light on those risks, they ought to put them in some perspective.
