Are any of you watching the John Adams miniseries on HBO? It's very good. Paul Giamatti is great in it as well. 4 of the 7 episodes have already aired, but I would suggest trying to catch reruns if at all interested.
Haven't seen the film, but I saw David McCullough (the author of the biography on which it's based) interviewed over Easter weekend, and was totally impressed by McCullough, and his comments about Adams, who he obviously admired, so I bought the book but haven't started it yet.
One thing McCullough said, which I totally agree with, is that no one makes it alone. The self-made man is in part a myth.
With all that has been written about Abigail Adams I doubt most knowledgeable people would think Adams made it alone. She is proof the vote came to women about 120 years late. David McCullough loved the series.I have read the book and am watching the series. What an amazing family. John Quincy at 14 was Secretary to the Ambassador of Russia. Henry Adams the Great Grandson of John wrote a great book called the Education of Henry Adams.
The series has been great so far. Most films I have seen John Adams portrayed in were with him as only a minor focus. It has been interesting to see Adams portrayed this way.
