Default Question for Christians

Please to to keep responses focused on the main topic of the thread.

At the last supper, Jesus knew he was going to die and that this was his chance to set up his church and religion for future generations.

This is when he blessed the bread & wine and told the disciples that if they believe he was the Son of God and ate the bread and drank the wine that they would have a home in heaven.

Am I right so far?

My question is...why are so many Christians obsessed with studying and living off of every word of the Bible?

If Jesus wanted us to microanalyze every word of the Bible, at the last super he would have giving the disciples instructions in write the Bible and would have told them to make sure that it is read everyday and used as a life manual.

I think Chritainity would be better off if people followed the general concepts such as treating othes like you would like be treated, rather than trying to find meaning in some obscure Bible verse.

Please to to keep responses focused on the main topic of the thread.

Default Re: Question for Christians

I don't think all Christians are. Catholicism is based not only on holy scripture, but also holy tradition, and teachings of the magisterium, the church leaders. I do believe that the precepts are the most important parts of the Bible, especially the commandment that Jesus said is the most important of them all: Love God with your whole heart and soul, and love your neighbor as you love yourself.

Of course, not all Christians believe this way, and it makes me sad. Sometimes I fail to see the love of Christ in some people who claim they are Christians.
