Thread: McCain needs a miracle

    Default McCain needs a miracle

Clinton is toast and that is bad news for the McCain candidacy as the numbers already look dismal. It's all about the states and the electoral college. It's also all about the turnout and the turnout for the McCain side is not near as energized.

Rassmussen is generally right on with deeper polling than the generic stuff that others put out there. Also, popularity polling is not the real indicator here, although the nosedive for Clinton is pretty stark. Democratic voters will do just what the republicans did with McCain; move to Obama because he is electable. She may not win another state, although it's the proportion that really matters. Even if she does squeak by, she won't get enough delegates to come close to beating Obama. If she has any class whatsoever (doubtful) she will drop out after March 4th. The powers that be in the party will essentially force her to drop out.

Go to rassmussenreports.com and you can read all about it:

    Electoral College: Democrats 284 Republicans 216 Toss-Up 38

    Wednesday, February 20, 2008

Rasmussen Reports released new general election polls for Ohio and Michigan today, but there are no changes in the Electoral College projections from the Rasmussen Reports 2008 Balance of Power Calculator.

If the Presidential election were held today, the Democratic candidate would likely win 284 Electoral Votes, the Republican candidate would likely win 216 Electoral Votes while 38 more would be in the Toss-up category.
If ?leaners? are not included, the Democrats lead 248 Electoral Votes to 189. To reach the magic number of 270 and win the election, the Democratic candidate would need to win 22 of the 101 Electoral Votes from states that are Toss-Ups or Lean modestly towards one party or the other. The Rasmussen Reports 2008 Balance of Power Calculator will be updated daily until Election Day.

Kerry and Dukakis also had large leads in Polls months before the election.

And Gore won the popular vote.

The McCain people are praying that Clinton squeaks in there. The repubs and the semi-repub (Clinton) are doing everything they can to make it seem like Obama just fell off the turnip truck.

Big mistake on both of their parts. That just pisses off people who are tired of the same old same old being in power. It is all about change, and neither of them see that.

It's a long ways until November, and a lot can happen between then and now.

Kerry wasn't much of a candidate but he was also swift-boated (purposely misrepresented). Why wouldn't the party that attacked a candidate's honorable military service, try a similarly underhanded ploy in the next election?

Actually, the swift boat episode is widely misunderstood. The book "Unfit for Command" was written by people who served with Kerry in the military, not by a Republican attack machine.

Kerry still hasn't released many of the documents that purportedly would refute the swift boaters. You can agree or disagree with the swift boaters assertions, but the assertions were made by people who served side by side w/Kerry.

Flop, what part of serving in combat, honorably, with medals don't you understand? It was a smear campaign, nothing else. You can buy their book and swallow their bullshit all you want but, if you do, I'm telling you the swift boat campaign is a slap in the face to all veterans who served honorably. If Kerry's combat medals and service is flawed, then I might as well throw away my uniform and non-combat service medals at the realization that my years and my efforts were worthless.

I don't agree at all, but whatever. If the book had been written by journalists who couldn't find Vietnam on a map, then it would be easy to dismiss. Instead, it seems that a large portion of the men who actually served with Kerry had some bad things to say about him. Not about the entire military, but about him. People who haven't read the book, and/or people who automatically think the S-boaters are a bunch of liars can believe whatever they want to believe.

BTW, comparing Dukakis and Kerry to Obama is like comparing a Div III fifth placer to Brent Metcalf.

November is going to be all about turnout. If Obama keeps all these first time voters energized, he should win handily. I've been around for a long time and I have never seen so many previously uninvolved, apathetic people be so excited about an opportunity to be heard.

Say what you will, but George Bush has so enraged so many people that Elmer Fudd would stand a chance if nominated. McCain may as well be called McBush. You can't live in the 30-35% approval range for years and not have it be an albatross around the neck of his party.

How do explain then his victory in 2004?
