Thread: McCain skips vote on stimulus package

Default McCain skips vote on stimulus package

I wonder if the "straight talk" senator will explain why he was the only Senator to cop out and not vote?

Maybe it was past his bedtime? Maybe his pollsters didn't get back to him in time? Maybe he was full of shit when he said it was a top priority for him and he broke his promise?

Maybe he was planning the next 95 years in Iraq and couldn't be bothered with a stupid little vote in the Senate?

Its not unusual for senators or congressman to miss votes. I am sure many Dems missed the vote too.

It is true that a lot of Senators miss votes but there are a few who miss a ton. I belive the two biggest offenders are McCain and Kerry. I think Kerry missed almost 50% of the votes and McCain missed 47% of the votes. Those numbers could be off a little i'm going off of memory here. As a resident of Arizona (though Iowa will always be home) he really pisses off all of us Republicans down here. But i guess he is still better than Hillary or Obama.

Chance I am a native of Arizona and my father-in-law is one of the largest republican contributers and I have never seen the republicans get angry at McCain. Now I have seen them rake Hayworth over the coals. I do know McCain misses a lot of votes but he makes the important ones.

Is the vote on the stimulus package expected to be close? I thought it was going to pass by a confortable margin, it that's the case it isn't very necessary for him to be there.

I agree. Not an important vote.

    You must be joking?

As usual, for about the millionth time, the repubs set up a filibuster so it required 60 votes to pass. The final tally was 58-41 (sorry Ugly-he was the only one not to vote). If McCain stuck with his word, it would have been 59 votes with the outside possibility that another repub would have switched his vote.

For now, there is no time frame when this package will ever go through. However, this once again shows the obstructionism from the party that whined for years that straight up or down votes were in the interest of getting things passed.

Harry Reid is such a pussy. He gives in every single time.

I am just talking about the people I talk to down here and the callers that I hear on talk radio. The talk shows I listen to are Barry Young, Bruce Jacobs, and JD Hayworth. They are on 550 am. I always liked JD Hayworth, he was a good republican. When I first moved down here a little over 5 years ago I always heard good things about McCain, but more of the anger at McCain has really started in the past year or two.

Chance you got there just when I left for Colorado. Seems like things have changed in five years.

Password this is not an important vote like everyone has mentioned this bill is supposed to pass easily. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
