Password this is not an important vote like everyone has mentioned this bill is supposed to pass easily. You are making a mountain out of a mole hill.
Ugly, I question your knowledge of the Congress.

It passed easily in the House, but due to the repubs filibuster, it did not pass in the Senate as the bill was written. These are facts.

Anyone who thinks an economic stimulus package is not important in this near-recession economy is not in touch with what is happening.

McCain chickened out. Imagine if HC or BO didn't show up to vote, I doubt you dem haters would blow it off as not important.

And why didnt it pass the senate. Could it be because the dems added a bunch of crap in the house and it would have passed if the dems would not have done this.. If the repubs were going to filibuster then why would McCain need to be there.

As usual, for about the millionth time, the repubs set up a filibuster so it required 60 votes to pass. The final tally was 58-41 (sorry Ugly-he was the only one not to vote). If McCain stuck with his word, it would have been 59 votes with the outside possibility that another repub would have switched his vote.

For now, there is no time frame when this package will ever go through. However, this once again shows the obstructionism from the party that whined for years that straight up or down votes were in the interest of getting things passed.

Harry Reid is such a pussy. He gives in every single time.
If McCain voted, it could have been 58-42, still not enough votes. As for the 60 votes needed, don't forget that the Dems held up a LOT of votes in years past, some of which funded our troops, who are dying to ensure your freedom.

Anyhow, Ugly is right that the Senate dems bastardized the House bill into something that is much more costly and does not help the economy any more than the House bill.

And, while we're on the economy subject, this "stimulus" package is just a gimmick. The last tax "rebate" didn't do squat for the economy and this one is not likely to do any better. We already had a decent thread about this a week or two ago. A better plan would be to renew the Tax Cuts to make them permanent and encourage capital investment. A $600-1200 rebate is not going to create jobs, encourage investment, and jump-start the economy. All it is going to do is make us forget our problems for a few weeks. After that, we're back to the same old grind.

His spokesman has recently admitted that he would have voted against the measure anyway, so it didn't matter.

A recent release by ABC news showed that of the 450 votes in the 110th congress that McCain missed over 56% of them. When you're running for president, by not voting you don't give your opponents any ammo. They can't dig into a bill and find some tiny addendum and claim that you voted to fund or not to fund something that'll shock people.

Not voting on that bill was just good politics. It was bloated with too much other crap that the dems had added to the house bill. I would have loved to have seen the funding for renewable energy given, but not as a part of this bill. If it was going to pass it had to back in December and it didn't by the same 59-40 score with McCain once again the only non-vote.
