Default Beware of Republican Candidates trying to compare themselves to Reagan

McCain and Romney often claim they want to be like Reagan. Well, in reality Reagan built up the biggest national debt in history during his Presidency which put America on the path of slow but sure economic destruction.

Sure enough Republican candidates are not saying that BUT all of us are still paying for the debt that began during Reagan administration.

The administration's stance toward the Savings and Loan industry contributed to the Savings and Loan crisis.[85] It is also suggested, by a minority of Reaganomics critics, that the policies partially influenced the stock market crash of 1987,[86] but there is no consensus regarding a single source for the crash.[87] In order to cover newly-spawned federal budget deficits, the United States borrowed heavily both domestically and abroad, raising the national debt from $700 billion to $3 trillion.[88] Reagan described the new debt as the "greatest disappointment" of his presidency.[88]

Reagan also built up the strongest military our country has had, lead us out of the Carter recession and stagflation, and led us into some of the best economictimes our country has had.

There are other threads already about the economics of the Reagan era if you would like to read them.

Military doesn't put food on the table. It only collects people's money. A nuclear bomb is all you need.

If I take a $100K loan right now, I will have the best economic times ever for a few years before I have to pay it back and find more money.

Say Reagan comes to power now in the image of McCain. He will continue to build up the military and increase national debt by borrowing. Is that what we want?

You are right McCain is no Ronald Reagan. Reagan was one of the best presidents of all time. I have a really hard time believing or listening to someone who takes their information from Wikepedia!!!

You are probably a fan of Carter and Clinton who were two of the worst presidents in history.

Well actually historians rank Buchanan, Andrew Johnson, Hoover and now Bush as the worst of all time.

Lincoln, FDR, Washington, Jefferson, T. Roosevelt are ranked among the best.
