Default New generation of homeless vets

Although the writer presents a pretty one-sided view (but a nice historical perspective), returning vets (and their problems) are an issue. As is homelessness in general.

http://news.yahoo.com/s/ap/20080120/..._the_homefront

For now, about 1,500 veterans from Iraq and Afghanistan have been identified by the Department of Veterans Affairs. About 400 of them have taken part in VA programs designed to target homelessness.

The 1,500 are a small, young segment of an estimated 336,000 veterans in the United States who were homeless at some point in 2006, the most recent year for which statistics are available, according to the National Alliance to End Homelessness.

Still, advocates for homeless veterans use words like "surge" and "onslaught" and even "tsunami" to describe what could happen in the coming years, as both wars continue and thousands of veterans struggle with post-traumatic stress.

People who have studied postwar trauma say there is always a lengthy gap between coming home

Who will ever forget the great Iraq War 1 Vet, Tim McVeigh.

The right wing loves to drive around with ribbons on their pickup trucks; the same pickup trucks that would drive over a homeless vet if they were in their way.

Ouch! But spot on. Those pickup trucks and their angry drivers think they own the world.

Insane. Someone reads too much "Green Eggs and Ham".

Funny how lefties only care about Vets when they're homeless.

Using the words of matclone - "Ouch! But spot on."

Very sad that some mentally deficient poster would come on here and actually say this - "The right wing loves to drive around with ribbons on their pickup trucks; the same pickup trucks that would drive over a homeless vet if they were in their way."

I got to go now. Hopefully I will spot some homeless vet out there I can run over.

The point is: you wouldn't know if he was a veteran or not. It would just be someone in your way.

Evidence? Examples? Or did you just feel the need to lash out against some "other"?

I see Flop and CTC react to the "right-wing" portion of Password's message. Nothing really about drivers or vets or homelessness. It's all about us v. them, isn't it? To paraphrase something my 1st Sgt. used to say: "Good conditioning".

Evidence? Examples? Or did you just feel the need to lash out against your sworn enemy?

Interesting how you didn't ask Password for "evidence" and "examples" when he posted this: "The right wing loves to drive around with ribbons on their pickup trucks; the same pickup trucks that would drive over a homeless vet if they were in their way."

You just nodded your head in agreement and posted "Ouch, spot on".

Regardless, I was just answering one broad generality with another.

He used, as an example, someone driving a truck with a ribbon on it. We've all seen pickups with ribbons on them and, if you spend any time as a pedestrian (as I do), you could probably relate to aggressive drivers in pickup trucks.

It was indeed a broad generalization. But you made it broader.
