Thread: April 15th Tea Parties.. Blowing Smoke or Serious Stand-off?

Default April 15th Tea Parties.. Blowing Smoke or Serious Stand-off?

These happen every year, but it seems to be getting more press lately (well.. on FoxNews, anyway....)

    So..

    #1) Will you be going?
#2) Why the focus on taxes? What has changed in tax code since last year that has caused such an outcry?
#3) will there be rioting or peaceful protest?

    BIG doings planned for Jersey.

Last week a local radio stationed delivered over 3000 empty wallets to the State House in Trenton. They had been collecting them from around the state for two weeks, drop of points near major highways. They pulled up in front the State House in 2 hearses with 2caskets filled with the wallets, people decked out in black carrying the caskets.

I thought that was a pretty cool statement to make to the legislators and da gov.

Life's not the breaths you take, the breathing in and out that gets you through the day ain't what it's all about. It's the moments that take your breath away.

    1. Yes I will be going
    2. Taxes are only part of the issue....the bigger issue is the size and power of the federal government. I like what the Govenor of TX said.

    1. I won't be going. I REALLY want to but I am in class all day on Wed, it's a block style class the meets only once a week and if we miss ONE class we lose 1.0 of our grade for that class.
    2. I agree with Chance
    3. They will be peaceful.

I am actually really excited to see the extra interest. I am encouraged that people are getting involved and interested in government.

    It's all about me
    It's all about me
It's all about me, my friend,
    so let's keep griping

I heard about this this weekend on the radio.

    2. I see you didn't get a straight answer to your question Schlottke. As far as I know, the only change to the tax code, has been some tax breaks, and nothing significant has occurred. Part of it is probably concern over spending (rather that taxation), but then the whole thing seems to be an umbrella for a variety of right-wing issues that have little or nothing to do with taxation. See http://www.teapartyday.com/
    3. I predict the gatherings won't be large, anywhere, except in some people's imaginations. Hence, they will be peaceful.

I have not heard a thing about this, so it is not that wel publicized.
I assume that it is some form of tax protest.

I did go to the website and their list had very little to do with taxes. It was mostly about too much deficit spending and then a laundry list of conversative talking points, some of them outright silly.

I agree that the amount of deficit spending is ridiculous and will cause long term damage. But too suddenly blame it on Obama and the Democrats is beyond hypocritical. When Clinton left there was a surplus, Bush ran the deficit up like nobody ever has before. This is clearly a problem both parties help create.

Also, if you truly believe the deficit and national debt are major concerns, there has to be a combination of major spending cuts and tax increases to bring them down. To pretend we can continue to cut taxes in order to increase revenue enough to deal with the debt problem is ridiculous.

I expect a large turnout in Tampa and Orlando. I am going during Lunch with some good signage. It will be peacefull so long as they don't plant antagonizers to make the protests look extreme. It was a rumor I heard.
