Nah, I basically offered to pay for a good meal, movie out or something like that, sorry he thinks it is silly. No strings attached or anything like that. In fact, nothing about Jesus, religion or the likes was mentioned. Tell you what Big, just pm me here and tell me of someone or some agency that does good work, and I will send the gift in honor of you. That way, it is as if you are helping someone or some group, would be glad to do it.
Big it is just my nature to want to give at Christmas. I have been married for 28 years and for 26 of those 28 years I have had people with me, this year is no exception. A former gang banger, who is living a tough life, trying to get straigtened out with several gunshot wounds will be spending Christmas with us. I actually pick him up today, and will stay with us until at least Christmas evening, maybe longer. We have started to get to know each other when we were in a play together last week and he played the part of the gangster. The relationship and friendship won't just be a Christmas thing but ongoing and this is just a way to keep him from being alone during the holidays.
I challenge, that it is in the giving that most people will find joy at Christmas, obviously with it CHRISTmas, people will talk about Jesus, but hey, I don't care, why you help others, just help others. Now if there is another Russian day or something like that which Big wants to inform us about all of the joy and good will stuff, tell us, heck, some of us may not be such fuddy duddys and try to learn about that day, and do something there as well.
Some of us "Jesus Freaks" believes like a line in one of the songs my wife sings this time of year, "It's not the things you do at Christmas time, it's the Christmas things you do all year through." In other words, giving, caring, helping, the homeless, abused, and so forth.
By the way Big, have you seen that movie yet? If not a shame since William Wilberforce is credited with doing as much, if not more than any person in history to abolish slavery. Here is the wiki page for you to at least get a start:
